What is Connexions?

Information Services

The Agency

Information and guidance programs and materials are essential if young people are to be able to make informed decisions about their future plans.

We act as agents for the main software suppliers of careers guidance programs including Kudos, Careerscape, LaunchPad, Adult Directions, JED, Higher Ideas, Ani-Mods, e-CLIPs, Eisodos and Exodus online software packages.  We are able to purchase and supply annual licences at a discount to our participating organisations.

e-guidance programs

Kudos

  • Kudos is a careers matching and information program to help young people 13-19 to plan their future.
  • It uses individual interests and qualification aspirations to generate a personalised list of career suggestions.
  • Young people can also explore their own career ideas and discover their suitability.
  • It has detailed information on over 1,750 career titles, including salary and labour market information.  It includes over 3,500 photographs of people at work.
  • Personalised Action Plan reflects results and encourages goals setting.
  • Web and email links signpost additional resources.
  • It is updated 3 times a year, and is available online and on CD. Please note that not all features are available on the CD version.

Adult Directions 

  • Adult Directions uses an individual's work-related interests, skills and desired occupation level to identify suitable careers and help adults to make decisions about their career direction.   It is suitable for adults of all ages and abilities.

  • It has detailed information on over 1,800 career titles, including salary/employment styles careers selector and labour market information.  It includes over 3,000 photographs of people at work. 
  • Web and email links signpost additional resources.

Careerscape

  • Careerscape is an information package for young people and adults, providing information on 1800 careers and includes over 4000 photos of people at work and videos on 270 careers.
  • It includes 80 articles covering education, training and employment issues, along with Lifestyle articles for young people, and salary and labour market information.
  • Information on subjects, study and training options and qualifications, along with details of 50,000 UCAS higher education courses.
  • Subject Link articles help young people understand how subjects link to particular careers.
  • It includes a leaflet printing feature.
  • It is available on line.

LaunchPad

  • Launchpad is for Key Stage 3 to introduce students to their future options, and help them plan and make choices about their education and career path. 
  • It includes a personalised Functional skills and PLTS profiling quiz which identifies personal skills and compares them to the skills required to study GCSE and other subjects at Key Stage 4.
  • Enables students to discover more about the subject options available to them and identify how each subject supports career choice.
  • Launchpad introduces around 450 careers, with essential information on each career plus case studies and interviews, 2800 photographs and 200 videos illustrating real-life work activities.

Ani-MODS

  • Animated 3D characters tell a story.
  • Sixteen modules with interactive tasks and a quiz.
  • Each module takes about 15 minutes to complete and introduces your students to a topic eg work experience, going for an interview.
  • Curriculum suggestions and follow-up support materials.
  • Sutable for age 13+.

Higher Ideas

Users can 

  • Generate ideas for higher education choices from HND, through to first degree level course.
  • Evaluate and compare different learning paths.
  • Search for universities and colleges by study topic.
  • Refine searches by UK region.
  • Make enquiries by writing letters and emails from within the program.
  • It can link to JED.
  • Higher Ideas is available online and on CD. It includes a Home use option.  

JED (Job Explore Database) 

  • Detailed information on more than 870 jobs includes 2000 career titles.
  • Includes videos, 'top tens', career fact of the day.
  • Easy to use quiz that suggests jobs to explore.
  • Information on personal qualities needed for each job, and significant health factors.     
  • Differentiated for specific learning styles.
  • Jed is suitable for Key Stage 4 to adult. It also includes First Jed which is designed to appeal to users in Year 7 and up and suitable for use with some special needs groups.
  • It can link to Higher Ideas.
  • JED is available online and on CD. It includes optional extras – video, text to speech and to include local information.   

EISODOS         

  • This Careers Europe online database contains information for refugees, asylum seekers, EU Migrants and for those working with these groups in an advisory capacity.
  • There are profiles of the countries of origin of the migrants, information on their rights to live, work and study in the UK, as well as applicable rules and regulations. This information is available to print in 23 different languages. 

Exodus

  • Database of international careers information.
  • Information on opportunities around the world including GAP Years, studying, working and living abroad.
  • Links to relevant websites.
  • Suitable for KS4 onwards.

eCLIPS        

  •  eCLIPS gives access all the CLIPS leaflets via the internet. 
  • Includes all the features of KeyCLIPS plus email facility and remote access to all the information on careers and personal issues affecting young people.
  • Updated files each month.
  • Easy to print facility.

CLIPS (Careers Library Information Pamphlets)

  • Is a complete careers information system consisting of approximately 530 leaflets covering 1200 jobs, careers and life topics.
  • Checked annually.
  • Updates sent to subscribers on a monthly basis.
  • Subscribers are free to reproduce CLIPS leaflets for their own use and that of their students.
  • Provides an excellent basic careers library and is simple to keep up to date.
  • Suitable for Year 9 onwards.
  • Sample sheets available.
